One of the other Suzuki families manages a restaurant in town, Cibo, and offered to host the recital in the carriage house. It was the perfect setting for their first formal recital as it was nice enough that they felt like it was a big deal but yet a really intimate setting so it wasn't too intimidating. 5 students performed a range of Pre-twinkle and twinkle songs. Ellie had already sat through Willem's soccer game so she was ready to run and play. But once the music began, she was in a zone. I think she really enjoyed it.

Willem's Pre-Twinkle Medley12 weeks in the making, Willem earned his trophy. His teacher had started a contest to help the kids stay focused and be active listeners in their lessons. It was a real challenge for Willem because he likes to wander around the room during his lesson and play as though he can't hear his teacher. But he was motivated by the trophy and for 12 weeks did as he was asked. Not only were the lessons more fun for all three of us but he gained the skills he needed to play Twinkle. Once he got to that point he was self motivated. He now asks to play the violin because he wants to learn all the Twinkles, just like his friend Mia in the studio. We were really excited to see that turning point. Also, a couple of weeks ago he celebrated his 1 year Suzuki Birthday. He was really proud of himself, definitely made the rough practice days worth it and helped to recharge both of us.
