On November 15th I was officially 41 weeks along and we were all ready for our new baby to arrive. Ellie was so sweet, she gave me foot massages each day the week leading up to the baby's arrival. Willem was patient with the fact that I couldn't run after him and play the games we usually do. We spent a lot of that week reading books and watching cartoons together, waiting for a sign that the baby was ready to arrive.
Finally, the morning of the 15th I went to the midwife who told me the baby was ready to be born, they may just need a little kickstart. So they stripped my membranes. After I went to lunch and headed to Ellie's school to take a walk until she was ready to be picked up. It was a strange feeling of anticipation knowing that we may be meeting our little baby anytime that day. After getting Ellie from school and putting her down for a nap, the contractions began. They continued every 5 minutes for for several hours but weren't bad. Luckily Erik picked Willem up from school and I spent the afternoon laboring while watching TV with the kids. When I was sure this was the real thing, I called Jason and he headed home from work as soon as he could. The midwife told me labor would most likely pick up after the kids went down and to eat a light dinner and go to bed early. Before dinner, we decided to take a few last pictures of us as a family of 4. The kids were so sweet, talking to the baby and trying to feel it move. We didn't tell them I was in labor, just in case the baby decided not to arrive that day after all.
